Tracy Ross won the highest honor in magazine writing for her feature essay in Backpacker magazine, which she later turned into a best-selling memoir. She has traveled the world bringing stories of adventure and humanity to readers in the pages of Outside, Backpacker, Bicycling, Ski and other titles. She recently completed a feature about the disappearance of Aubrey Sacco in Nepal. She is currently the editor at Mountain magazine. tracyross.net
Adventure journalist Jayme Moye has written hundreds of stories for more than 50 publishers including National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, New York, Outside, Runner’s World and Men’s Journal. In 2014, Jayme was named North American Travel Journalist Association’s Travel Writer of the Year. Her writing has been anthologized in The Best Women’s Travel Writing and Vignettes and Postcards From Paris. She is currently co-writing, On the Nose, A Lifelong Obsession with Yosemite’s Most Iconic Big Wall Climb. jaymemoye.com
Geoff Van Dyke joined the staff of 5280 in 2007 after three years of full-time freelance writing and editing. From 2009 through 2014 he helped lead 5280 to a total of 48 City and Regional Magazine Association award nominations, including multiple nods in General Excellence, and in 2014, 5280 won its first ever award in CRMA’s Excellence in Writing category. Van Dyke has edited stories by 5280 staffers that have been anthologized in Best American Sports Writing, Best American Crime Reporting, and Best Food Writing, and he was the editor of “Low On O2,” which was a finalist for a 2010 National Magazine Award in the personal service category. His own writing has appeared in national publications including Men’s Journal, Men’s Health, Outside, Bicycling, and the New York Times. Before his stint as a freelancer, Van Dyke was an editor at Men’s Journal.
Michelle Theall started her career in publishing twenty-two years ago and is currently the editor in chief of Alaska Magazine. She has appeared on NBC Today, MSNBC, The Travel Channel, and the Fox Sports Network. The author of two health books, Theall’s syndicated health and fitness column ran with McClatchy Tribune for several years, and she garnered two prestigious Folio Awards for her work with Women’s Adventure magazine (a title she created in 2003 and sold in 2008). More recently, Theall won two awards of excellence from the North American Travel Journalists’ Association for her feature and editorial writing. And her feature essay, All That’s Left is God, earned a 2011 GLAAD Media Award nomination.
